A note from the beginning of the Kiam Journal, as a historic Houston building prepares for its next chapter.

The Kiam has stood on Main Street through decades of change in downtown Houston. Much of its story has unfolded quietly over the years, beyond what could be seen from the street. Even so, the building remained deeply important to our family, and the work of preparing for its next chapter never stopped.

That next chapter is now beginning. Restoration of the Kiam is already underway through study, planning, preservation, and the many early decisions that shape a project like this long before the transformation becomes visible. There is still much more to come, but this is where it begins.

The Kiam Journal is where we will share the building’s history, the restoration behind its next life, and the unfolding story of what this landmark on Main Street is becoming.
